Interviewing: How to ask the right questions $75
The questions you ask reveal a lot about you, maybe too much.
The best question is really “wha?” or “no way!”…but how do you get there? How do you turn an interview into a conversation that’s organic and satisfying for you and the listener? How do you ask questions that elicit stories and not just answers?
3 hour webinar includes a 20 min break and pairing break-out sessions.
In the first part of the webinar we will cover interview tips as well as listen closely to produced work to imagine what the questions were that got such great tape.
20min break while you imagine interview questions for your project. And snack. And pee. Whatever.
The second part of the session will be hearing your draft interview questions—who you want to talk to, why you want to talk to them and what questions might get you to the “ah-ha” moment on tape. Participants will first break into pairs, try out questions on each other then report back to the group about what worked…and what didn’t work.
This webinar is suited for any level of podcast experience. Participants will be asked to fill-out interview worksheet prior to webinar and pre-listen to produced pieces we will analyze as a group in the first section.
Suitable for both documentary project and/or biography or portrait genre. Not suitable for reporting or memoir genre.
Craft terminology, podcast analysis skills, how to talk with people for the tape and the listener, dream tape processes, steering towards “ah-ha” moments, better understanding of the story you want to find.
