Interview tips

Use pre-interview to plant ideas to be covered in actual interview, it’s a contract you enter into with subject. Plant the seed of what you want to talk about, the goal is to get the “ah-ha” moment on tape. The who/what/where of the story is easy, the why is what you want to get on tape.
  • Keep questions short, don’t load them with facts.
  • You are Socrates, adopt naivety of listener.
  • Framing or bias questions expose you (Were you disappointed?)
  • The first person to interview is yourself because fundamentally what you want to find out in other people is something you’re searching for in yourself. Ask YOURSELF why you’re interviewing them.
